APPSC Group 1 2026: Eligibility, Age Limit, Vacancy & Selection Process

Vacancies not announced Graduate level Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission Updated

The main examination is typed, not handwritten. APPSC moved its descriptive papers onto computers, which quietly replaced the constraint every mains candidate trains around — handwriting speed — with one almost nobody trains for, namely typing speed in the language you are answering in.

APPSC Group 1 age limit and relaxation 2026

The age limit for APPSC Group 1 2026 is 18 to 44 years as on 01 Jul 2026. That ceiling is the reason to take this exam seriously. UPSC CSE closes at 32 for a General candidate, so someone out of attempts nationally still has years of APPSC Group 1 ahead. Very few exams stay open this long.

APPSC Group 1 selection process

StageDetails
Screening testA single objective paper whose only function is to cut the field down to the number the commission will evaluate descriptively.
Main examinationLong-form papers composed on a computer. The medium — Telugu, English or Urdu — is fixed at application.
InterviewA personality assessment whose marks are added to the descriptive total.

Who should apply for APPSC Group 1

For Andhra Pradesh graduates, and for candidates elsewhere who assume administrative service closes in the early thirties. Anyone intending to answer in Telugu should be practising on the input method months before the notification appears.

Things candidates miss about APPSC Group 1
  • Answers are typed, so input speed in your chosen language is a marks question.
  • The screening test filters; it does not score.
  • Telugu, English and Urdu are all available as the answering medium.

APPSC Group 1 2026 — frequently asked questions

Is the APPSC Group 1 mains typed?
Yes. Answers are entered at a keyboard rather than written by hand. If you plan to answer in Telugu, practise on the actual input method well in advance — it is a distinct skill from knowing the content, and the examination hall is the wrong place to meet it.
Does the screening test score count towards my final rank?
No. It exists only to reduce the field to a workable number for the descriptive stage. Candidates who chase a high screening mark at the cost of mains preparation are optimising a number nobody will ever look at again.
How much Andhra-specific study does Group 1 need?
Enough to be planned for separately. The state's own history, its post-bifurcation administrative arrangements and its economy carry weight that national material does not cover, and that gap is not closed by reading more of what you already have.

What APPSC Group 1 is actually like

Candidates prepare content for two years and meet the keyboard for the first time on the day. In a typed descriptive exam, input speed is a marks question, not a comfort question.
