GPSC Class 1-2 2026: Eligibility, Age Limit, Vacancy & Selection Process

Vacancies not announced Graduate level Gujarat Public Service Commission Updated

One preliminary examination feeds a long list of Class 1 and Class 2 services at once — Deputy Collector, Deputy SP, Taluka Development Officer, District Registrar and more — so a single application puts you in contention for services with quite different working lives. The preference order you submit is doing more work than most candidates realise.

GPSC Class 1-2 age limit and relaxation 2026

The age limit for GPSC Class 1-2 2026 is 20 to 34 years as on 01 Jan 2027. The Gujarat domicile certificate is what unlocks any relaxation, and it is checked at document verification — apply for it before the form opens, not after you clear the written stage.

CategoryRelaxationEffective maximum age
General / EWSNo relaxation34 years
Reserved categories, women, PwD, ex-servicemenSet by Gujarat government rules for Gujarat domicile candidates — read the upper age for your category in the notification
Do not add the central relaxation here

The OBC +3 / SC-ST +5 figures that apply to SSC and UPSC are central rules. GPSC Class 1-2 follows Gujarat's own, and they apply only to Gujarat domicile — a reserved-category candidate from another state is assessed as General, at 34. Full age relaxation rules →

GPSC Class 1-2 2026 — frequently asked questions

Does one GPSC application cover several services?
Yes — a single preliminary examination feeds a list of Class 1 and Class 2 services, and the preference order you submit decides which you are considered for. It deserves more thought than it usually gets.
Can I write the GPSC mains in Gujarati?
Yes. It is worth doing if you were schooled in Gujarati medium, because the Gujarat-specific history, culture and administration content is deeper in Gujarati than in English.
Is there an interview for GPSC Class 1 and Class 2?
Yes. Gujarat abolished interviews for Class 3 and much of its non-gazetted recruitment, but the gazetted Class 1 and Class 2 selections retain theirs.

What GPSC Class 1-2 is actually like

The services behind a single GPSC advertisement differ enormously in what the job is actually like. Candidates rank them by prestige and then spend a career in a role they never examined.
