RRB JE pays at Pay Level 6 — the same as an SSC Sub-Inspector — for a diploma holder, with an age limit of 33 and no physical test. On value per year of eligibility it is arguably the strongest technical recruitment available in India, and it is consistently under-applied relative to Group D.

RRB JE age limit and relaxation 2026
The age limit for RRB JE 2026 is 18 to 33 years as on 01 Jul 2026. Your age is counted on that cutoff date, not on the day you apply — so a candidate who turns 34 after the cutoff date is still eligible.

Who should apply for RRB JE
If you hold an engineering diploma and are under 33, this deserves priority over almost anything else you are eligible for. The competition is a fraction of Group D because the eligibility pool is restricted to engineering qualifications.
- Age limit of 33 is materially more generous than SSC JE, which caps at 30 or 32 depending on department.
- Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant posts require a science degree rather than an engineering diploma.
- No physical efficiency test, unlike other railway recruitments at lower levels.
