Who should apply for SSC MTS
The right first step for Class 10 pass candidates under 25 who want central government employment quickly. Once inside, departmental exams open the route to LDC and beyond — many senior clerks started here.
- Havaldar posts require a physical efficiency test; general MTS posts do not.
- There is no interview and no typing test for MTS, which is unusual at this level.

What SSC MTS is actually like
MTS is the entry point to central government service and the honest description is that the work is general office support — dispatch, records, upkeep, assisting the clerical cadre. It is not skilled work and the pay reflects that at Level 1.
It is also the most reachable central government post for a Class 10 candidate who is not a strong test-taker, and the security is identical to any other permanent post: pension, allowances, and immunity from the layoff cycles that hit private work at this qualification level. Candidates who join MTS and clear departmental examinations within a few years end up in a materially different position from those who join and stop. The Havaldar posts in CBIC and CBN carry a physical test and are worth checking separately.
