CET is a gate, not a selection
Passing CET does not get you a post. It makes you eligible to be shortlisted for one, and shortlisting takes a multiple of the advertised vacancies in CET score order before the post-specific examination is held.
That structure rewards a very specific behaviour: sit CET as early as you are eligible and score as high as you can, because the score follows you across every Group C and D advertisement for its validity period. A mediocre CET score is a ceiling on everything you can apply for afterwards, and no amount of subject preparation lifts it.
The socio-economic bonus marks are gone
Haryana previously awarded additional marks on socio-economic criteria — no family member in government service, being a widow's child, and similar. Those bonus marks were struck down in court, and recruitment has been re-run without them.
Any guidance that tells you to claim those marks is out of date and will cost you time on an application that cannot use them. Work from the current advertisement, which does not carry those fields.
HCS sits outside all of this
The Haryana Civil Service examination is run by HPSC, not HSSC, and CET has nothing to do with it. It recruits to the state administrative, police and allied services through prelims, mains and a viva, on the pattern a UPSC aspirant will recognise.
Because Haryana is geographically small and its cadre correspondingly compact, HCS advertises few vacancies against very large numbers of applicants. It is worth attempting alongside neighbouring states rather than as a single target.
