Government jobs in Andhra Pradesh 2026 — exams, age limits and domicile rules
Andhra Pradesh asks candidates to type their descriptive answers.
APPSC moved its main examination onto computers, so essay-length answers are
entered at a keyboard rather than written by hand — a change to the physical act
of the exam that most preparation completely ignores until the day.
We track 1 Andhra Pradesh recruitment on this site.
Your date of birth decides most of it — every exam counts your age on its own cutoff date, not today.

A descriptive exam you type, and what that costs the unprepared
Handwriting speed is the constraint every mains candidate trains around. Remove it and a different constraint appears: typing speed in the language you are answering in, and comfort with an on-screen editor under time pressure.
Candidates answering in Telugu face this most sharply, because typing Telugu fluently is a skill in its own right and not one that any amount of content revision supplies. If you intend to write in Telugu, practise on the actual input method months in advance — the first time you meet it should not be in the examination hall.
Local cadre, and the part candidates skip
A large share of Andhra Pradesh posts is reserved for local candidates of the zone in which the post falls, with the remainder open. Localness follows schooling records rather than a current address, and the zones are defined in the notification's own annexure.
The failure mode is not misunderstanding the rule but skipping it: candidates read the total vacancy figure, apply, and discover at the result stage that they were competing for the open remainder rather than the advertised number.
The ceiling is higher than most of India
Andhra Pradesh sets its upper age limit for direct recruitment well above the national norm, and it applies before category relaxation rather than after. That keeps state administrative service open to candidates whom most states would have excluded years earlier.
If you last checked your eligibility against a central examination, check it again here. The answer is frequently different, and the assumption that it cannot be is what stops people from looking.
Frequently asked questions
Is the APPSC mains written by hand or typed?
Typed. APPSC moved the descriptive main examination onto computers, so answers are entered at a keyboard. Candidates answering in Telugu should practise on the actual input method months ahead — it is a separate skill from knowing the content.
How is local candidature decided in Andhra Pradesh?
From schooling records — where you completed the years of study preceding your qualifying examination — rather than from a current address. The zones are listed in each notification's own annexure.
What is the upper age limit for APPSC Group 1?
Andhra Pradesh sets it well above the national norm, and category relaxation applies on top. Check the current notification rather than assuming the ceiling that applies to central examinations.
