Government jobs in Kerala 2026 — exams, age limits and domicile rules
Kerala does not appoint you when you pass. It puts you on a
rank list, and the list stays live for a fixed period during
which appointments are made from it as vacancies arise. Clearing the examination
and getting a job are two separate events here, sometimes years apart, and every
piece of advice written for other states gets this wrong.
We track 2 Kerala recruitment on this site.
Your date of birth decides most of it — every exam counts your age on its own cutoff date, not today.

The rank list is the system, not a formality
A Kerala PSC rank list is published with a validity period. Appointments are made in rank order as vacancies are reported by departments during that window, and when the window closes the list lapses — including for people on it who were never called.
Two consequences follow, and both are practical. Your rank matters far more than your having passed, because it decides whether the list reaches you before it expires. And a candidate on a live list should keep sitting other examinations rather than waiting, because the list expiring is a normal outcome rather than a failure of the system.
One registration, then everything
Kerala PSC runs a single permanent candidate profile. You register once, and every subsequent application draws on that profile rather than re-collecting your details. Kerala also advertises posts continuously across departments rather than through one annual examination.
The practical implication is volume: an eligible candidate in Kerala can apply for a great many distinct posts in a year, each with its own rank list. Treating Kerala PSC as one exam to prepare for misreads it — it is a standing pipeline, and the candidates who do well are the ones applying broadly.
LDC and LGS carry the volume
Lower Division Clerk and Last Grade Servant recruitments are the largest Kerala PSC runs, they are conducted state-wide and district-wise, and their qualification floor is school-level rather than a degree.
District-wise recruitment matters more than it sounds: the same examination produces separate rank lists per district, and a mark that places you far down one district's list may sit comfortably inside another's. The district you apply from is a decision, not an administrative detail.
Frequently asked questions
Does passing a Kerala PSC exam mean I get a job?
No. You are placed on a rank list valid for a fixed period, and appointments are made from it in rank order as departments report vacancies. Lists routinely lapse with people still on them, so keep sitting other examinations while you wait.
What is the Kerala PSC one-time registration?
A single permanent candidate profile. You register once and every later application draws on it, which is what makes applying to many posts a year practical rather than laborious.
Why does the district matter for LDC and LGS?
Because those recruitments produce separate rank lists per district. The same mark can sit far down one district's list and comfortably inside another's, so the district you apply from is a real decision.
